Dr. Jack Dale Nations was appointed Commissioner of the Arizona Oil and Gas Conservation Commission and Arizona Representative to the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission in 1976. He has served more than 40 years in both positions.
After receiving his Bachelor’s Degree in 1956, Dale served three years as a pilot and civil engineer in the U. S. Air Force in Texas, Colorado, and England. After earning an MS in Geology, he was a petroleum geologist for Chevron and Amoco in New Mexico and Oklahoma for 3.5 years. He left the oil industry to study for a PhD in preparation for college teaching. He was a faculty member in the Geology Department at Northern Arizona University for 31 years, retiring as a Regents Professor Emeritus in 2000. His main research activities were on Arizona's Cenozoic basins and coal resources. He worked numerous consulting jobs in oil and gas exploration, coal resources, CO2 sequestration, and environmental projects.
