Retired from a long career in the energy industry, Jim Ballard now volunteers for the state and undertakes independent studies to promote helium exploration and development
in Arizona. He is a member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists and the Society of Exploration Geophysicists. The broad range of assignments over 36 years in the industry involved nearly every oil and gas exploration, development, and production stage. The last significant projects included mature field development in California and a horizontal drilling program in West Texas.
Since leaving the industry, he has written three petroleum-related papers, discussing Offshore California, the Central Basin Platform of the Permian Basin, and the Guyana/Suriname Basin and Helium in Arizona.
